Packaging Guide

Everything you are moving should be properly packed before the movers arrive. Loose items could easily get lost, dropped, or damaged without the proper care. At Isaac’s Moving & Storage following a reliable moving packing guide is so important.

Packing Guide

Packing in boxes, wrapping items, and using the right packing materials will protect belongings from damage and is highly recommended. Electronics and similar delicate items should ideally be packed in their original packaging if you saved it.

Some suggested materials for preparing your move are:

  • 2” Packing tape, and masking tape
  • Tissue or other packing paper & bubble wrap
  • Utility knife
  • Scissors
  • Permanent marker
  • Quality moving boxes

General Packing Tips

The best way to simplify the packing process is to begin packing well before moving day. Create a packing timeline that starts with rooms and belongings you don’t often reach for, such as sheets, off-season clothing, or decorations. This steady preparation allows progress without interrupting your daily routine.

As you pack, give fragile items the protection they need with plenty of paper, other padding, or even towels and pillows to fill empty spaces. When larger items like furniture come apart, place screws and small items in plastic bags or trash bags, then tape them securely to the piece.

Seal every box tightly on both the top and bottom with tape. Keep heavy items in smaller boxes so they can be carried efficiently and don’t crush lighter belongings. Reserve larger boxes for kitchen items, hanging clothes, or other items that need more space but aren’t too heavy. Try not to exceed 50 pounds per box.

When labeling, mark boxes with their correct rooms so movers know where to place them in your new home. Consider grouping essentials—like your coffee maker, toiletries, and toilet paper—into one box so they’re handy right away. Keeping suitcases packed with necessary items such as toiletries, equipment, or important documents can also help you avoid a last minute scramble.

Let us handle heavy or special items like:

  • Marble or glass tabletops
  • Heavy wall ornaments and mirrors larger than 40”x60”
  • Pool tables
  • Pianos
  • Bulky or fragile items
  • Major appliances

What NOT to Pack

Certain items cannot be placed on a moving truck for safety and legal reasons. To avoid complications, set these items aside in advance and arrange alternate transport:

  • Aerosol cans
  • Ammunition
  • Auto repair and maintenance chemicals
  • Bleach
  • Propane tanks
  • Fireworks
  • Gasoline
  • Hazardous materials
  • Lighter fluid
  • Matches
  • Nail polish remover
  • Oxygen bottles
  • Paints and paint thinners
  • Perishable items, including wine

We recommend that these type of items should be transported by you in your vehicle:

  • Firearms
  • Family photos and other valuable items (collections, cash, jewelry)
  • Moving documents and important personal papers
  • Prescription drugs
